So I store and mix all my water in my garage. My RODI water is in a 32 gallon Brute with lid but my fresh mixed SW is in a 5 gallon with a lose lid because of the cords from the heater and power head. Should I keep a bag of carbon in my fresh SW? we park our cars in there and occasionally clean things/stuff in the garage (carefully).

I don't keep mine in my garage but I keep mine just in a 5 gallon jug (only a 15g tank) and I just seal the lid well and only heat it when im getting ready to put it in.

My only concern in your case is between the heater and the lid not being snug is evaporation which would leave you with a higher concentration of salt then expected. Tbh I would probably remove the powerhead and heater and only use it when getting ready to add it so you can keep it sealed (prevent evaporation and any exhaust from getting in there)

if you want to keep it heated and with the power head tbh I would put a hole in the top for the wires of the units and then use silicone to seal it back up.

might be overkill but just my thoughts
