Hi Everyone , new beginner. I have this algae and it is spreading like crazy.Have asked at our local shops and they don't know what it is I am hoping someone can help identify and have ideas to get rid or it.

No idea [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Colonial hydroids, not sure exactly how to get rid of them other than taking the rock out and scrubbing them off and rinsing the rock in RO water. Sometimes they appear and as your tank stabilizes they seem to disappear.

Is this only on one rock?
Those are hydroids
Depending on how far they have spread will determine eradication methods.

My best advice is getting all you rocks out and scrub them in RODI water or saltwater that is super high in DKH like a limewater mix.
You can test with Kalkwasser to make a paste similar as to treat Aptasia and watch the effect on the hydroids.

Thank you for your help. I was hopeful for something easier but that is what I will do. Thanks so much ! I don't want it to kill my corals

I hope we did assist you well on this topic and let us know how your tank is doing in a week or so.
Matter the fact is do you have a build thread from your little reef?

The Aptasia-x seems to work, but the results are barely negligible. I added a Copperband Butterfly today. I fear I've made a mistake by adding this fish. I fear taht he will eat all my copepods and other beneficial critters in my rock and sand that I've seeded for keeping my dsb healthy; however, I'm fighting these colonial hydroid that hitchhiked in on the base rocks that I seeded my dsb with (irony). The dsb is new and under developed at this point, so I'm hoping that the copperband attacks and cleans up the hydroids, then I can re-seed the dsb; otherwise, I'm going to remove all the live rock and start over: last resort.
