Found this yesterday, so think it’s been there long. Not sure what may have built it. Seems to be made of a silk like substance, I can see threads of it coming out of the top. Anyone recognize this?

The bluer pictures are off my sump with hundreds of sponges, many being pineapple sponges and you can see how they get there name as shaped like a pineapple.and the other 2 pictures are sponges looking more like you do in middle of some zoas, the white sponge is at bottom of zoas but at night when zoas close can see 2 more and dont seem to be bothering the zoas, but if they start choking the zoas or any problems I will pull/ peel them off.
Yours is looking like it's starting to get the top part of the pineapple sponge.may not be but looks like it.
Sponges generally want to be in dark or shaded areas and are filter feeders and get tunicates are similar also and can see them pulsing.

+1 pinapple sponge. To expound on N.Sreefer's point of sale, as a system's microbiome matures you'll see a variety of algae and other stuff show up and wane. Patience is the key and overreacting will only exacerbate problems. Aquabiomics article is a must read IMO

Very long article but very Intresting so thanks for sharing ^_^
I choose dry rock as got scared off by all the stories of hitch hikers and also wanted to glue/ mortar my dry rock structures and planned on qt everything and if found bad bugs that eat coral then eliminate them in qt Instead of dt but then choose to do no qt at all lol and now I got little black and white bugs that eat green slimer polyps but the black bugs eat the white bugs which is interesting ha ha
But as Said in that community the live rocks get to work faster with all the diversity and even help unwanted algae stages/ugly stages etc and even all the little different pods will all each other so could even help control the bad pods/ bugs eating corals as other pods eating them and wish I got proper love rock as now I believe its just better all around but once used dry rocks I just choose to buy coral frags from many different lfs in hope got the diverse microbial community and micro fauna and all that stuff, and apart from the black and white bugs I got so many different type of pods and even though my nutrients are very high my ugly stage not been that bad and now after 1 year I don't even really clean my glass and at present no mad/ bad algae outbreaks and I'm at stage of lots pineapple sponges mainly in sump so all going OK really .

But question @Timfish I know how to copy url and share an article or a YouTube video etc but how did you share above article in way you did ?

Like sharing like this where you shared article but I guess you choose to write "aquabiotics article"

In the tool bar at the top when you're entering a post there's a symbol of two chain links hooked together. When you click on it it opens up a diolog box where you can enter a url and link it to a text phrase in your post. EIther way works and the majority of the time I'll just list links but sometimes it's more streamlined to link to a phrase
