Last night I had looked at tank to see how things were coming along. I looked at one of my small zoa colonies and noticed that one polyp was closed but all others were fine and looking heathly.
This morning the whole colony is gone! Stripped right from where they were glued! What happened? Has anyone else experienced this before?

:ooh:

Do you have any other zoa colonies in the tank? What types of fish do you have in there? Were the frags freshly cut?

I've had zoas just melt away before.. but they were always from fresh cut frags.

Fish wise I have:
Blue regal tang
Flameback angel
Candycane hogfish
Christmas wrasse
Pink/ yellow anthias
Black Percula
Kole Tang
Cleaner wrasse
Green coris wrasse
Inverts:
Blue hermits
Red legged hermits
Snails
Harlequin shrimp
2 cucumbers
2 serpent stars

Could any of these be hungering for zoa polyps?

The blue tang is a possibility, are you sure they just didn't come unglued and float under a rock or something?

Well I haven't had the time to really look to see if they have floated away or are stuck under another rock. I will and I hope tat they just came unglued.
Will let you all know.

Have any turbo snails? They're notorious for coming out at night and disturbing all your most precious frags. Could easily have dislodged the zoas in a quest to get at algae. Seems unlikely that all traces would be gone overnight. Some zoas just don't want to stay glued down.

I hope that they floated away and are off in a corner. Once I take the tank apart for my upgrade I hope to come across them.

I found a COLONY in the bottom of the intake screen of my Vortec last month. It was pretty funny to see they grew into a ball and were doing great despite being sucked in at 4000gph on and off (reef mode) lol
I glued them back down and they have never looked better :)
