It showed up recently, and it is the first algae that has grown in the tank in I don't know how long. The snails, hermits, and clown don't touch it. What is it, and how do I get rid of this unsightly eyesore?

Well, not entirely. You don't want it in the tank, new or not. Wipe it away with the wisp of your hand. Whats your flow in the tank. It'll grow as it is a new tank, and whould subside closer to your 6-8 week stage. If its there longer, we need to talk water parameters.

More waterchanges
Less feedings
Wet-skim skimmer
What was the nuisance algae in your tank, all the parameters are all good tested for silicates none, its gone on for months

Reduce white light intensity a little and siphon up. Add 1.5ml of liquid bacteria per 10 gallons during the day and add the following snails:
Margarita, astrea, cerith and nassarius along with 5-8 blue leg hermit crabs and these will aid in control of cyano
