Hello R2R,

Wondering if anyone can ID this? I’m thinking it’s a sponge but I’m not familiar with it. I’ve done a bunch of googling and haven’t found anything like it. It doesn’t seem to bother anything but I’ve seen it popping up everywhere. Anyone familiar with it?

Looks like some type of colonial Tunicate to me. Filter feeders that come and go, mostly go over time from what I gather. Good guys and sign of healthy system.

Dont believe sponge or tunicates but looks like either Sea Salps or transparant sea cucumbers

Definitely tunicates. Look at Botrylloides spp. and their relatives. Salps would be the free floating version of tunicates.

If they are spawning on your tank that's great, the one to the right might even be a colorful one. Filter feeders though, so not easy to keep alive.

Spot on - googled Botrylloids and a ton came up. They’re literally all over the place on my overflow and some of the dead rock I’ve added so I guess I’m doing something right!
