Anyone have any idea what this is?! The polyps move in the flow and retract sometimes (at night I think). It's about 2cm across. I have a small new GSP frag somewhere completely different in the tank - surely it's not baby GSP?

Could be hydroids or a type of stylocoeniella.

Are you sure? I can't see any pictures of hydroids where they look like this - almost like 100 tiny anemones or polyps

The fact that is is a purple colored patch leads me to think it would be star polyps, hydroids don't grow from a mat.
Yes, this is also my thought - there is a clear mat. But aren't the polyps too far extended out of the purple matt to be star polyps? It would be quite incredible if they are - the adult frag is nowhere near them and as you can see there's no evidence of any piece of the adult having detached and grown there.

Im brand new to reefing. If it were stylocoeniella that would be mind-blowingly cool. I'll just be happy if it's not something deadly after having fought off aiptasia.

Ok it looks extremely similar to this picture i found but with different colours - the polyps look much more like this than gsp.
