My guess is this is a bite from one of my other fish that is now a scar. When first noticed a few months ago it was fairly gnarly and deep, but has since healed over the about where you see in photos.

The only weird thing is I almost feel like it has waxed and waned a little - Solly is fine - active and eats like no other citron you’ve ever seen. A bit of a bully as well, likes to chase the cardinals and barnacle blennies. Leaves the mandarins, purple firefish and neon goby alone.

That’s not to say Ursula the purple firefish leaves him alone but I haven’t witness any aggression towards him.

Tough to see in the photo, but it does look superficial. Not sure why it would be waxing and waning though - typically, superficial lesions either stay the same or gradually get better.

I don't see any treatment warranted though......

Okay cool - yeah he’s not letting me get a better picture than that - believe me I tried haha

It moreso sometimes seems like its a little whiter, but that could also maybe just be the lighting playing tricks on me.

When it first showed up I almost considered doing some treatment and fortunately the wait and see approach worked out - Ive killed fish in quarantine before and its the worst feeling ever.

Looks raised and appears be post injury with bacterial issue
Seachem kanaplex or ruby rally pro mildest but work with Jay as I’m about to go into movie theater

Yes, I prefer not to treat fish unless the symptoms are worsening AND I know what I’m treating for….guessing at a treatment is not a good idea.

In a tank full of overly peaceful fish I am very curious how he got it - any chance its a sting from a torch or is it more likely another fish that bit him? The good news is whatever it was I don’t see it happening more at least.

It doesn’t look like damage from another fish. A coral sting maybe, but that doesn’t explain it changing over time.

Im not entirely sure if it changes over time vs the lighting just being different throughout the day.

When I bought my threadfin cardinals I started with 3 and they weeded out the 3rd by essentially picking on him and put a bite on it before it died that looked very similar - only difference being it developed a raised white appearance on the bite where this one seemed to not progress to that.
