Stray Voltage and Probes

I know this topic has been beaten to death BUT...

Voltage build up isn't an issue until a direct current is involved. So...

I have no electrical devices in my display but a ton of stuff in my sump... wouldn't it be beneficial to have one down there? That was there would be no current running from the display to the probe in the sump rather just in the sump to the probe?

Id probably stick it right between the heaters!!!

Yes, you think it would be a good idea?

I figure I have an EB8 and a GFCI as a backup. I found a crack in my CL pump and it shocked the hell out of me.
 
Well you should always have a ground in the tank when you are working on it. Drop your probe in before you put your hand in there. That way that won't happen to you. It is not necessary when you are not working on it. The sump is an acceptable place to keep one permanently if it makes you feel better but it will mask a failing piece of equipment.

Oh and every piece of electrical equipment MUST be connected through a GFI!!!!!
