Stray voltage in QUARANTINE TANK?

Trying to come up with something for you. What, and how many fish? Not voltage causing issue which I assume you have fixed by now. Maybe a stupid question but are the heaters submersible? I got tricked bought a fluval. I thought all heaters were submersible not this one. That's just plain stupid of them. Try changing food this is weird
3 foxface , blue tang all new from fish store . Died within 24h in span 2 weeks . QT not cycled ammonia, nitrite 0 , salinity 1.022 Temperature 78 and with last fish I did acclimation per new instruction 2 hours . Picture of QT

There are two issues here and we haven't connected them yet: stray voltage and fish die-off. M46, do I understand from your posts that you've replaced several heaters and you still have stray voltage? I would then suspect the outlet. There are a couple of things you might look at: Is there dried salt from spray on the outlet? I had that once and got some tinglies in my fingers; better housekeeping fixed that. Is it a GFCI outlet, or is it on a circuit with one? If so, it may be wired incorrectly; I understand pre-2006 GFCI outlets aren't to current code, or it can be miswired (load to line instead of line to load). Is the heater a 2 prong plug (probably)? The pump is likely a 3-prong plug. We had a case in the lab where the ground connection on the socket side was only intermittently connecting, and we blew a bunch of Schottky diodes, when soldering them. Besides that I don't have any comment on the fish die-off. Keep us posted on this mystery!

I would definitely be leaning to the issue being related to putting fish into an uncycled small tank unless I am missing something here. What are you doing to prevent ammonia toxicity in the uncycled tank?

Not cycled QT does not kill fish if ammonia, nitrite are 0 and ammonia will not change in 24h to be deadly . So uncycled tank has nothing to do Because is not deadly with ammonia or nitrite .I have 2 QT tanks 1 no issue and another is mystery . I was asking regarding stray voltage or any electrical issue. I know my QT is not toxic.

I bought a new heater and still showing me voltage but it maybe induced voltage not harmful to fish. I don’t know if induced or stray voltage and how to find out.No dried salt tank is new only for QT before goes to DT . I checked outlet and is wired correctly. I don’t know if voltage can harm the fish . Someone gave me hint to check stray voltage and I did and is showing me 15v but I don’t know if that could be problem. And how can be in my thank Voltage in the water . So voltage is very normal be present in the water? Or not? So I can exclude voltage in water causing killing.

Not sure how you are keeping ammonia at truly 0 in an uncycled tank, but in any case was just trying to help as it is not the voltage killing your fish in 24h and you have had lots of good suggestions on how to identify and resolve the voltage issue. Fish disease is possible but seems unlikely to happen repeatedly within 24 hrs on what i assume were healthy looking fish not showing symptoms. So that leads me to thinking toxins, salinity, o2. Assuming your salinity reading is accurate it should be fine. Based what you showed of tank with the bubble filters o2 should be fine. Which again led me to thinking toxicity of some sort of which ammonia in an uncycled tank is the logical thing to look to.

Yes i agree it could be sick without visible stage of symptoms and then develop the visible symptoms and die that quick. I only say it unlikely because to happen multiple times in a row (plus it would usually be very obvious on the dead fish that disease is present). Not that i would rule out disease i am far from an expert on fish disease.

This is my 2nd QT with copper not cycled has been running 30 days . Ammonia , Nitrite 0 . I do 25% change water every 4 days . I have no issue with ammonia. My new QT had no fish in . Set up is same.

Generally, induced voltage is low current, so normally it would not be harmful; as I said previously, your fish will be at the same +14 V throughout, so as far as the fish are concerned, they're not seeing any voltage. Is there any resistance between your water and the outlet? if so, then it's a direct connection and you might be getting hefty current. If high resistance, then it's an induced voltage. I would like to ask you, as it was not obvious from the photos (good job documenting, by the way), how did you measure the voltage, one probe in the water and the other probe at a ground?

I haven't forgotten you but I'm coming up blank. I'm thinking a heater likely has circuitry to limit voltage and current in case of failure. In any case, stray voltage should not affect your fish, but we still don't have a clue on why you have the die-off. Let us know if you find out.

Thanks for reply. I already disassembled the QT aquarium, sold it. The only thing I can think of is that the extension cord with two prong without ground or somehow electricity was causing killing the fishes. Or silicone, some chemical in tank. I have another QT tank with same equipment, I brought 2 new fishes and everything is good. So the mystery QT tank is gone and my headache too.
