Stray Voltage

Whats the best way to check for stray voltage in your tank?
What do I ground my voltmeter too?

Take one probe and touch the water and touch the other probe to ground. Your center screw on your receptacle should be tied to ground. Some older homes they are not though....

I am actually wondering if testing for current with your multimeter would be better.

I have been hearing from some people that a ground probe actually is worse because it completes the path and now your criters are in a flowing path of electricity. Somebody just did an article on this but I can not find it.

It make sense though if you grab a live wire nothing happens unless you are touching something else.

Thats my problem... Older house. No grounds wired to the recepticles.
And with the old wiring I doubt a grounding probe would work. But I would like to check to see if I need one, before I buy one and rewire the room so it would work.

I do not use a grounding probe.

you can bang some rebar into the ground out front or out back and run a wire from that to the other end of the metter. thats where the ground from the house would go.

i am with revhtree, i dont have one.
