I believe I sufficiently explained what I meant below that line... in the case of 1000:1 vs 10000:1 you've made it 10,000 times safer, right? Even though the difference amounts to 0.01% 99.9% success rate vs 99.99% success rate.

Specifically, when dealing with a sick fish, if you quarantine it, you're far more likely to not spread that disease than just releasing it into your tank, which makes it 100% safer than not quarantining it, right? But if only 1 fish out of 100, or 1 fish out of 500 is actually sick, to begin with, the risk is already low meaning safety/success is already high, so quarantining isn't moving the needle all that much... But you can interpret it however you want...

Ok I understand what you are saying more now. Ya you do have a point but I more prefer to have the safety net in case then not to. I also qt my own fish so that is different. Not sure I would want to pay someone three times the price to do that for me. I get some people would rather roll the dice and that’s fine. I do still disagree with you saying qt doesn’t move the needle much. Just for the fact that one fish could wipe out your entire system. If it wasn’t as severe of consequences for a single fish I wouldn’t bother with qt.

And that was the heart of my argument. 3x more expensive is nuts, by the time I've bought 3 fish, I could have turned around, bought the same thing at LiveAquaria or BlueZoo, and if Quarantine was my concern, used the saved money on buying a Quarantine tank and done it myself. That gets further amplified by the fact that most people have 20 fish in their tanks, so I could have bought a quarantine setup 7 times over... It's just plainly not worth it...

And yeah, everyone has their own level of risk that they're willing to accept. And that level is just different between the two of us, I'm not gonna knock you for being safe, and I wholly expect people to tell me I'm living dangerously ;-)

You're reading that the wrong way, or I didn't articulate it well. I didn't say it only decreases the risk by 0.01%, I'm saying that I would only be 0.01% safer for paying more than twice the money. There are things you have to consider here...

1) The overall sick population of fish is a relatively small percentage of the fish in the hobby
2) Reputable places like BlueZoo, LiveAquaria, etc. Look at their fish daily and pull sick ones out for treatment, further reducing the population of sick fish
3) The percentage of sick fish that make it to a customer's door and are not already DOA is even smaller

I feel reasonably confident that I could order 1,000 fish from places like LiveAquaria and BlueZoo and only ever get 1 sick fish, time may prove me wrong, but I'm somewhere around 300 with no illness yet. 1:1000 is 99.9% safe, so even if Strikers is 1:10,000, I'm spending ridiculous amounts of money on getting a 0.01% gain in safety, from 99.9% to 99.99%

It's a ridiculous argument to have with you......you don't believe in quarantine and anyone who says LiveAquaria of all places is safe is not someone that should even say ANYTHING in a quarantine thread....you clearly stated you don't believe in quarantine, so then why comment or bring up prices of pre quarantined fish? You don't believe in it.....and by saying LA looks at fish and treats them is literally a joke....I can't comment on BlueZoo, but anyone who thinks LA sells 99.9% safe fish is delusional at best

You know, there are ways to have conversations and get your point across without resorting to name-calling, right? Just because I don't quarantine myself doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the cost of fish from a place that "pre-quarantine's" them... Also, just because you, someone you know, or some forum posts may have convinced you that LiveAquaria is out there selling diseased fish on the regular doesn't mean they are. If they were, there'd be no way for them to stay in business. Perhaps you may benefit from the realization that R2R only represents a small fraction of the global reefing community, including the United States. I'd be surprised if more than 5% of all US Reefers were active on these forums, which means that for every 1 poster from the US you see, there are at least 20 more out there you don't see. Also, consider that people like to complain more than they like to share success stories. This means that you commonly see the negative aspects of a company and not the positive ones...

Umm, I believe you implied I was delusional... did you not? That was the offensive part and what I would consider name-calling... Also, I couldn't possibly care less about what you have to say about live aquaria (or any other company for that matter) as I am not emotionally invested in any of them; it seems you might be, though...

Secondly, I am not on the defense; if anything, you sound defensive, your language, your tone, etc... I merely pointed out that a few forum posts and 1 or 2 negative personal experiences are not indicative of any company as a whole, and that most of the time people complain, and others don't always share success stories. I didn't say it was that way always; I made it very clear that both occur. However, they occur at different rates, where negative comments and experiences are often the overwhelming majority.

But you do you... You can go on believing what you believe, I'll go on believing what I believe, and the world will still keep spinning... Just try to have a civil conversation without so much emotion coming through next time...
