Hello all,

My Duncan seems to be expelling his insides. I've been fighting a battle with Dinos (and I may finally be making some progress). I lost several SPS in the fight and have had tissue recession on many of my LPS. However, this one seemed to be doing ok until a couple of days ago. Today I came home to find it like this.

I apologize for the pic being taken under blues, but the T5s had already shut down.

Is he toast or is there a way to save him?

Thanks,
Mark

I will consider that one as goner, but some might regrow out of the skeleton if a tiny cell remains intact and whatever problem causing this are corrected in time.

I had a Duncan that went through the same thing.
He was my favorite coral I had him for the longest then one day he just started to recede and recede, he eventually just never open any more all the coloring on his skeleton was gone so I gave up and threw it away. It wasn't easy but there seemed to be no hope I tried everything

Sorry for your lost. Most LPS with calcium skeleton usually will regrow once the condition permits, provided that there is something left out of it. But looking at skeleton for months is not fun either, so most of us will throw it away.

I know the photo is very ordinary (sorry ) but they look like feeder tenticles to me ??

I think I have to agree with most of the folks above ... although this guy _looks_ like a goner, he _might_ be able to pull through, if you can correct whatever issue is making him so miserable at the moment.

The Duncan coral will release sweeper / feeder tentacles from its heads to collect food. This will mostly happen when the tanks lights are off. These tentacles can also sting and damage or kill other corals within reach, which is how the duncan coral will defend itself. What makes the duncan coral more peaceful than most LPS coral is that its sweeper tentacles are much shorter in comparison only measuring a few inches in length.

Although the duncan coral will get what it needs from the lighting in your tank, it can also benefit from micro plankton or manual feeding of small pcs of meaty foods placed directly on the mouths at the center of each head. Although manual feedings are not required, it will help to accelerate growth.

Here is an updated picture from this evening. It has stopped expelling its internal algae, so fingers are crossed!
