IMO. It depends on where you're putting it. I have a cube and a long.
The cube would look weird where the long is and vice versa.

That aside, I'd take into consideration how you are going to light it as well. The cube can be lit by one of just about any of the LED fixtures out there. The long tank would need two or one of the larger fixtures. If you are going T5 or MH, that's going to be less of a worry. My personal preference is a cube. I have one now and really like the dimensions a lot. I feel I can do more with the width of the tank. The 5" difference between those two is going to be night and day. I would find it hard to aquascape that in a way that had flow around all sides and still leave room for corals to grow out.

I was thinking about having around 2 Clowns, a Randall Goby, a Banggai Cardinalfish, a red fire fish, and a cleaner shrimp.
 
I've had both IM 40 cube and have a IM long (frag tank).

I don't like cube tanks anymore unless they are very large, for one reason....flow.
I do, however, like them for aquascaping.

All comes down to space, location and personal style as stated above.
