Hi
New member here and thought I would try to get some ideas on what I Amy be doing wrong with my leather corals.

I have two leather corals. A devils hand and a standstool. Both were healthy when bought about one 4 months ago the other 2 weeks ago....they were healthy looking and were displaying ploys at the LFS.

Now they both look like the are not happy. What's weird is they are taking on the same color and look.
The tank is a 50 gal. I charge water weekly 10 gal at a time and use Aqua Forest Reef salt. I have a Orbit LED not Orbit pro and a 196 LED Mars Aqua. Both running.

Here are some pics.

Working water parameters and up loading later. My specific gravity is 1.025 and water temp is 80 f. They also get a mild to moderate flow from a kordan nano.
I have to step out and will get more water parameters.

I thought the same thing when I put leather corals in my tank too and they were just shedding. They came out of it looking even better than they did before!

Water test I ran so far:
Calcium=410
dKH=8
Ammo-0
Nitrate-0
Nitrite-0
PH-8.3
Phosphate-.002

I don't test for iodine,mag and strong due to I give my tank a water change every week.

One thing to note is that my LEDs sit 23" from the devils hand. 10" from water surface. Should I move them closer to the top? My green star, mushrooms and pulsating corals are doing great and spreading out...

Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh inforgot to mention my pipe organ.

Your other corals are doing fine? My initial guess was low nutrients, but if everything else is happy, they might just be going through a phase? Mine went chalk white from low nutrients and didn't grow or have any polyp extension for months; once I dirtied up my water and stabilized my chemistry it slowly came to life.

Yes my other corals look fine and growing. I will get some coral food in there to see how they do.

I think it is just a phase they could be going through , sarcophyton especially can "sulk" for extended periods when disturbed.

Just keep an eye out for any visible necrosis but think they will eventually recover.

I would say they might be shedding as well. I have had leathers do this for weeks!!
