Stupid question about EB8 designation

I just got a replacement Apex Classic head unit. Everything else is the same. I'm a dummy and didn't have a backup of my configurations, so I'm trying to reprogram the outlets. The problem is that the designations given by my old brain don't match available designations with the new one. For example, my old brain had device 4_7, with 4 being the "device" (the EB8 unless I'm fundamentally misunderstanding something) and 7 being the outlet. There are no 4s available as output configurations on the new brain. There's a wide variety of numbers but I don't know which belongs to an outlet on my EB8, so I don't know which ones to program. And why would the numbers have changed anyway when the EB8 is the same? Can anybody help me out? Thanks!

Any time you connect a new module, your Apex will automatically assign it the next available AquaBus address. There is no way to tell the Apex which address to use.

You will need to copy the output programming from the old 4_# outputs to the new 7_# outputs, then delete module 4.

But on my dashboard (new brain) when I click on the gear to edit the parameters of a thing, it's listed as device 3_2. When I click on outputs to assign/program things, there are no 3s. There are 7s, 11s, and 5s (but mysteriously not all eight outlets of each?), but no 3s.

And what does this mean? Both EB_3 and EB_7 are highlighted in blue, but I don't know if that means anything. I've got the programming for my T5s in both, but the lights aren't following the rules.

This is tricky because my return pump is a cheap adjustable DC pump, only able to talk to the Apex via an AQlink A1 module. Right now, no matter which device I use, this is what happens when I try to turn it on. No return pump right now.

I put my old brain back on the system before I went to bed today- it still kinda of works, just won't connect to any networks- so that I could have my return pump function back. But there's still something wonky with the programming. I didn't change a thing on the old brain, but my T5s are acting stupid. Apparently I need to recalibrate/replace my temperature probes because they think the tank is running hotter than it is (confirmed by manual thermometer in the sump), and the lights keep clicking on and off at the threshold temperature I set for a hot tank. If the programming is still good, the lights should be off after 1600 regardless of temp. I got up this evening and the lights were off, and then click they came on again. This is kind of frustrating! Anybody have a clue what's going on here?

The thought just occurred to me that I didn't do an Init Memory wipe first thing. Do you think wiping its memory and returning it to factory settings might help? Maybe the previous owner had two EB8s numbered 3 and 7.
