Stupid question of the day...

Ok sorry in advance but I am terrible with plumbing for my tank. I want to buy this to limit salt water getting sucked into my RODI water 20 gallon container True Union Swing Check Valve - Slip x Slip


Will it work? and what does it mean by slip? Can I just set it up with my 1/2 clear tubing or do I need to purchase pvc parts etc?

All I wanna do is set it up so when my top off stops working the pressure doesnt pull in salt water cause my TDS in my bucket seems to be always crazy amounts... Anyway what else do I need? my hose is 1/2 clear hose...

It would work, however there is still a chance your check valve could fail. I would just set it up so that your hose from the ATO is not submerged in the sump. Then a back-siphon cannot be created.

"Slip" fittings refers to the PVC pipe needing to be glued together with the fitting. The pipe (after cement is applied) is slipped into the fitting and when the PVC cement hardens it is a permanent fitting. It would have to be used with PVC.

I have my ATO hose zip tied to my return line. So when the pump turns on it just runs down the return line into the sump. Mind u its only zip tied 3in off the top of the sump water.

That is kinda what I just did now Joey but I originally did not do it as I was concerned my huge bucket is higher up then the sump so was afraid that the water would not stop running (gravity) and would overflow my sump... I think I remedied it by putting a huge loop higher then my bucket but we will see lol.

Lol I hope the loop works. I don't see why not. Once the pump stops it should drain everything after the loop in the sump and stop.

Careful about your your "loop" solution. I know its been a few months so you've probably already figured this out, but for others: if the outlet hole is lower than the inlet hole, it doesn't matter how high the "loop" is, the siphon will continue the flow of water.

What I do is immediately inside my top-off container, I split my poly tubing and run a zip tie through the hole. This breaks the siphon running from top-off to tank and from tank to top-off as soon as the pump shuts off. The downside is, when the top is off the bucket and the pump kicks on, a little splashing occurs. Totally worth it.
