Im having a 180 gallon tank built. I need advice on the best underlayment to put under this tank. My smaller 59 gallon, i just used a thin piece of rubber matt. Ive read, use the styrofoam from Home Depor. They have several varities. Pink, white sheets, and a foil back foam sheet. Also, ive been told to only line the outside rim with foam, was told if the foam compresses to much, it might put to much pressure on bottom of glass cusing it to crack, if full sheet ws used. What are y'alls recommendations please.

A thin rubber sheet is best for most tanks. It would help to know what type of tank. Glass? Acrylic? Bottom frame? Also what kind of stand?

It's a glass tank. Stand frame will be steel. A 3/4 " sheet of plywood will be on top of steel frame.

If you are getting it built, ask manufacturer what they recommend. Some will say nothing at all, and if you do use anything, your warranty is void.

I use nothing which was per the manufacturer. But if you need to use something I would use neoprene. Take a look at BRS and they have it for sale.

Thanks guys, I'll check with manufacture. It just seems that something would be better than nothing. If there's any imperfections in metal stand, there could be small gaps at places under tank frame, ive only read about, never seen a tank cracked because of this.

I have a 180 custom made glass tank and I used a couple yoga mats. less expensive than the IM mats and serves the same purpose. No issues after a year.

Thanks now were talking. Being I'm on a old guy budget, thats what i need to hear!

I talked with the tank manufacturer today. They are supplying a 3/4" sheet of styrofoam to put under the tank. It's amazing some builders say use nothing at all, warranty will be void etc. And this manufacturer says it's a must to stabilize the tank properly with this sheet of styrofoam their providing. Also, he said at least 4 people are needed to bring tank into home. But 6 would be better he said. Its only 180 gallons.
