Hello everyone so i have been on the lookout for submersible pumps that really output what they suggest and came across this. I know its not high quality, etc but am curious if anyone has used this or a similar one before. It suggests it does over 4000gph but does it really? haha

I have not used there return pump but I have and still do use there powerheads and they work great. As you said they are not high quality but that depends on your definition of high quality. The powerheads I have I have been running for a couple years and never had any problems. Some of your "high quality" powerheads cant even say that

Yeah from the reviews i can find they are mostly positive. I just cant get past the wattage and price. Seems too good to be true..

4000gph
140 watts
$70

Every other submersible pump I've found is triple the wattage and triple the price for half the gph haha

Maybe look at some Aqua Euro or Sicce pumps.. they’re on the cheaper end but are pretty solid performers.

It's probably a relatively strong pump for the price point, but there is definitely some fiction on one or more the listed specs and selling points. Fluval/Hagen owns Askoll pump manufacturing company that specializes in making wet rotor reluctance motor pumps for all sorts of industries, including the aquarium and pond trade. Their comparable saltwater rated pump - the SP 6 - costs over 225 on Amazon and boasts 3,434 gph while drawing 135 watts. It has no where near the 7.5m max head height claimed by the sun sun pump. And I can assure you that as far as efficiency goes there is no way sun sun found enough extra oomph to get a pump to flow more than that while doing a higher max head at 1/3 the price. Just ain't happening, but hey if you only need like 1000gph and don't mind the lower quality it's probably a fine choice for the budget reefer.

I sometimes wonder though... can you charge more for something labelled aquarium as opposed to pond. Marketing is a heck of a tool. ha

Oh assuredly, I buy all my T5HO lamps for my coral prop systems wholesale through hydroponics suppliers. They're cheaper through hydro wholesalers than aquarium wholesalers.... same exact product. It really is amazing what the general willingness of an industry to accept high prices does to it's standard markup across the board.
