Bare lamp? No the UV would be bad for you too look at and probably would not be good for the inhabitant.

They do sell UV sterilizers that go in the tank or hang one the back..

I'd worry about the UV breaking down plastics in the tank that aren't UV stable. Would hate to see a skimmer body crack

Yea that is another issue..

I can not believe they even sell something like that...

I mean I could see the law suits.. Must be a Chinese company..

i looked intoit more online it says its suppose to be attatched toyour filter or sump so no not directly in your tank

Yea but you cant look at a uv lamp it is the reason you have a little window in a UV sterilizer to see if the lamp is working..
[/ i can look at, jk safety is key if it wont fit all the way in my filter no point in having it, i think i found an hob uv sterilizer worth investing in that had a hole housing around it

SLOW down....
First things first, what size is your tank?
What is your goal with the UV sterilizer?

Don't through money at cheap little Amazon UV lights.

I use a 40 watt bare UV in my sump. Works perfectly at retarding unwanted bacterial and algae growth. It's essentially a channel UV setup but for a smaller tank. I'm not worried about it destroying my skimmer through the 12 inches of water and glass between the two.

Look up channel UV, I've set them up on multi thousand gallon aquariums and they work well.

I've also got a bare 60 watt sitting in the settling chamber of my koi pond, again, works great.
