substrate, which is better?

We advocate deep sand beds, though you have to give it some time. When you have a well established one (that is teeming with little critters) it is really the best. However, as previously mentioned, you shouldn't reuse sand. Everything that makes a deep sand (or crushed coral) bed of value will get very nasty once it's been disturbed. Personally I'm a big fan of the bare bottom look. If you get a piece of star board to cover the glass it both protects it and then you don't have the mirror bottom look that most people don't like. It eventually gets covered with coralline too which I think looks cool.

Thats exactly how this one is my last one was the mirror bottom look but coraline covered it up.
