Substrate

I am looking for the right substrate for my aquarium I currently have crushed coral but I would really like to have gobies. I know that sand is ideal for them but I also know sand can get on and damage corals and I would like to get corals eventually. What substrate could I use to have gobies and corals and both do well?

finer the better...keep you corals higher in the tank or they will get buried no matter on the substrate size
