Have had 3 anthias and a radiant wrasse in qt for 6 weeks. Prophylacticly treated with prazipro (2 doses) and just finished 14 days of copper power maintained at 1.8 using Hanna copper checker. Ready to transfer to DT today and noticed the largest anthias appeared blind. Looks perfectly fine, breathing normally, even attempted to eat but could not capture any food. Other than appearing not to see( he’s running into things and doesn’t respond to visual stimuli like my hand) he seems normal. 12 hours earlier he was seeing. Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks. The other 3 fish are perfectly normal.

Over dosing, either or both of too much or too long of duration, of copper can have that effect. Usually happens during collection and or shipping.

Copper power is supposed to be dosed 1.5-2.5. I checked daily with Hanna checker and never went above 1.85. Was at that level for 13 days. Do you think the level was too high or the treatment length was too long? Do you know if the blindness is reversible? Thanks for the response.

Your level is what I treat. And I usually treat for the full 30 days.

The fish was probably over dosed during collection or shipping or the seller.

Or it is an example of copper sensitive fish.

It may clear up. Nothing you can do, unless it is suffering from a bacterial infection of the eyes. How do the eyes look compared to the other anthias?

Eyes look no different from the other 2 anthias. Would not know there was anything wrong with the fish until he swims into things. Was seeing this morning when I fed them but could see a problem 8 hours later when I fed them again.

I guess I’ll just try to target feed him the next few days and see if his vision returns. Do you have any feel for how long it may take for his vision to return if it does?

How do this work out? I am dealing with the same thing. anthias was healthy 6 days into QT and after raising copper power and adding General Cure, seemed to be blind. I have her in a separate tank and eating with tongs.

Did the blindness go away or did the fish pass?

I wish I would have seen this thread earlier....

I've got an anthia in QT right now, with Copper Power dosed at 2.5 ppm since last night.
hoping I don't run into any similar issues. ugh.

I have 5 with no issues. Only 1 did not do well.

Unfortunately the anthias died about 2 weeks after going blind. I would try to feed him and he acted like he wanted to eat but he would never ingest anything. The other 2 anthias I had in the same tank with him did fine.

I just have one female Carberri anthia in QT right now.

Did the first round of Prazipro right away, waited 24+ hours then did a big water change and dosed copper power up to 2.5 ppm. kind of a picky eater. I've offered variety of food options and she doesn't seem to go crazy for any of it.

She seems decently healthy, not skinny, so I'm hoping she is just getting used to things or maybe its the copper suppressing her appetite. time will tell.
