Saw you have a 20l sump. I will be using the same. What is the size of the refugium section and is it effective

My refugium section is 9.5inches wide.

I would think it's effective. It's growing my chaeto. But I am still on 9 month in this thing and just restarted my refugium last month cause I had to dose vibrant.

My primary focus for the refugium is to get pods. Cause I want mandarin.

+1 on the Tunze. Love mine too. The magnetic mount makes it super pratical to place whereever you want -- literally on top of the chaeto (slightly submerged) in my case.

If it’s no trouble can you send a pic/vid of the whole sump. I’m currently in the process of soon starting my first saltwater tank. 40b/20l. Would like to get some ideas

Hey, welcome to the 40 breeder club. Check out my build page. This is the post of the sump.

How deep is your water?
I have a modified emerald 34 sump. The first chamber is where I keep the fuge. I use miracle mud, so the bottom is taken up by trays, so there's about 6" of water above the trays. Before I used miracle mud, the whole chamber was filled with chaeto and the H160 had no problems lighting the chamber.

Here's my fuge tonight after I pulled a majority of the chaeto out.

This is what I threw out after two weeks of growth. This is a 32g brute can and the chaeto is dense (about 5" to 6" thick). I only keep a small portion each time I trim the chaeto. The other factor with macro algae growth is trace elements.
