Hi Guys,

The thread title is pretty much self-explaining. I'm trying to find some options for my new tank. I would like to get something cost x benefit but at the same time something that would be efficient and good for my corals.

Could please give me some light, LOL?

Thanks

Depending on what corals your keeping can't go wrong with a 6-8 bulb ATI sunpower or Powermodule if you want a hybrid.

Hi,

Actually the lights have to be mounted on the tank. They can't be in-ceiling. I wanna go with everything sps and lps.

check out reefbreeders photon v2 throws out a lot of PAR

Are those light better than the well known radion's / hydra's / kessil's. People talk a lot about those lights but the price REALLY justifies the quality?

Guys,

One thing that I forgot to mention. I want stick around 1200-1300 budget for the lights. If I can spend less better. I'm still new to the hobby so the only lights that I see people using are the LED from those brands.

I feel like there just as good, the V2 is built like a tank, of course there not as popular as the radions but screw paying that much, crazy imo unless you got endless supply of money. The V2 are very powerful lights

thanks a lot guys

are those lights can be mounted using legs? I still don't gave a canopy and the wife would kill me if I drilled the ceiling

This orphek Atlantic v4 is DOPE.

Wondering if one would be enough but watching the video from BRS for a 4ft long tank 2 would be PERFECT.

2 xr15's, 1 ap700, ocean revive - so many options under your 1200 dollar budget. I have the ap700 over my 120 and really like it.

I have owned hydras, radion g3, photon v2 and kessils along with older versions of black box lights. I really like photon v2. They IMO were better than the radion g3 I had, I actually replaced G3 with the photon v2. So on a budget photon v2s rock to save money and still look and perform with the high end lights.

However for 1200 bucks I think the aquatic life t5 with ap700 would be great and is imo, the single best light you could possibly get. Unless one could sub the orphek for the AP700 but I don't know how it mounts while the ap700 looks to mount up to the aquatic life combo fixture well.

I would love to try the orphek and that would be my 1st choice but I don't have personal experience with it. From BRS:

Coverage

Maximum Spread - 48" x 35"

Recommended Spread - 40" x 24"

the v2 comes with legs

Guys thanks a lot for your inputs,

Is not because I have 13-1400 that I have to spend that. Honestly what I'm looking for is something that is 100% cost x efficient and will grow my corals no matter what the type (I know there's more stuff involved). Something that I know they will be happy, that the tank will have a nice look, shimmer.

Also, I know all of you have experience with different lights and different opinions.

My main concern about the orphek Atlantic v4 is that even though is the one of the best coverage area and par so far but it costs too much since I would have to buy 2 for 100% coverage.

The photons are really good but, not sure about how they spread on a 24" deep tank. Same goes for the Kessil's, Radion's.

Jesus so hard to decide.

I would probably go t5 or perhaps 2 photon fixtures if I was preferential to leds.
That’s my opinion, and I am biased. I have 2 photon fixtures and love them.

Edit:

An aquatic life fixture with some kessil’s would also tempt me. Those set ups look pretty snazzy.

You could always make light stand and mount to the back of the stand with conduit hangers. They are cheap, easy, look good and you can mount anything to them.... Just go to home depot and buy some conduit and have them bend it for you and paint.

Picture of mine.

I can understand the situation. The aquatic life with ap700 I didn’t put because it’s at the top of the budget but because it’s imo the single best light setup you can get. (Well maybe sub ap700 for orphek).

The 48” photon v2 would be great for under $600 tho.

I personally don’t like t5 only at all. But again that’s my personal taste.

I have an 8-bulb ATI over my 120g. Was contemplating Radions but seems like everyone is moving back to T5’s. Just bought $200 in bulbs. Will give it another year.

For what its worth, on my first "SPS Dominant" tank I ran two Reefbreeder Photon 24" V1's over my 75. While I had a little idea of what I was doing with SPS, I look back and realize I really didn't have any idea lol. Needless to say, if the V1's could produce the growth I had in my 75 four years ago with the incredibly unstable tank, I could only imagine what they could do with a stable and established tank.
