Suggestions for a starter clam?

I suggest trying a Crocea if you have enough light for a clam. How big is your tank and what lights do you have?

right now i have a 90g that is been up for about 8 months now. i just have a single 2 bulb t5 fixture all my corals are doing good but i have been trying to upgrade to two 250 mh just waiting for that right deal

Would a Crocea be fine under 100 watt 20k LEDs in my 29 biocube ? And how long should it be up before I put a crocea in (if it's possible ) thanks

Jack

One of the issues with crocea's is that they like a bit more light than some of the other clams. If you have good lighting they can do very well and don't really get too huge.

I don't know about Led's... my guess it they would be ok but don't take my word for it.

I agree with the crocea clam just be sure to pick a larger clam over 3inches. Alattner why get upgrade to a 4 or 6 bulb ATI T5 fixture?

I am not sure how much par that is as I am not familiar with LED light setups. If you can keep SPS you can keep clams and from what I have heard you should be fine with LED. I don't suggest adding clams till your tank has been setup for at least a year.

You are correct, the Crocea is the most light demanding of all the giant clams, closely followed by Maxima's.

well basically i see all these tanks with mh fixtures and everyone seems to have these awesome tanks with them and not as many people seem to have t5 fixtures soo i just kind of assumed that mh were better really though i have been looking at a local guys fixture that is a mh/t5 combo but idk. another reason i was think mh was because i have a 220 that has a canopy set up for three mh fixtures so when i transfer to the 220 here in a year or so i could just my the mh fixture and not have to buy more equipment. just thought it would be easier that way

Click on my 120g link in my signature and then go to about page #9. All T5 lighting and lots of clams in there. I have had both T5 and MH and I won't go back to MH again... Too hot and not as wide of variety of bulb combo's.

Glad to hear you say that, cause I made the decision a week or so ago to go with t5's on my next tank after using halide for the last 4 years.

I think T-5's should be fine for lighting, for most clams, Although they are a littl ebit demanding, my favorite is definitely maximas!

so if i go with a t5 light set up what kinda of fixture should i go with how many bulbs should i run right now i have a 90 48in tank

I went with the Hello Lights 4 bulb overdriven and 2 bulb standard DIY fixtures over my 120g. You can't beat the price and it even comes with bulbs.

Which ones hardier maxima ir crocea? Sorry for the slam O' clam questions . It comes with being the clam king!
