Looking for two or three additional fish to add to my new tank which is LPS / zoas. Dims are 36x24x12. Current fish are a pair of clowns, bicolor blenny and a neon dottyback. Need something that'll do well in a shallow tank.

GO!

The dottyback might be an issue with adding new fish...do you have an acclimation box?

Ok, with your current stock list I would probably avoid very docile fish, even with the acclimation box. Hm, @eatbreakfast what do you think? I've had horrible luck with dottybacks, so I'm not sure what to recommend [emoji23]

Maybe a trio of chalk bass could be cool? It might help spread the aggression to add several together.

I've got an orchid dotty in my other tank and he's very shy and pretty much stays to himself. The neon seems very social so far and swims around with the other fish. Haven't seen any signs of aggression...yet.

That's good. I had a friend with a neon that was fine with clowns, a few tangs, a couple damsels, and a trigger. His tank was a bit bigger though.

One of my first reefing mistakes was a diadema that was a killing machine and very tough to catch. Later, I tried a springers who ended up being obnoxious to every fish added after him, but never killed anything. I eventually re-homed him and haven't tried another dottyback since.

Neon dottybacks can be problematic for new additions, they are significantly more aggressive than orchids. Anything that wants to hang out near the rocks will be treated aggressively. I would suggest fish that prefer the open water, a group of green chromis or vanderbilt chromis, perhaps a yellow coris wrasse or a fang blenny.

Agree.

I love flame hawks for the red coloration and temperament.
