Suggestions for Frag tank?

I have a 20 long Frag tank that has been running for a year with two Quietflow 10 filters, Tunze 6015, and a 150 watt metal halide light. I was thinking of upgrading to a sixty or eighty gallon drilled Frag tank. I want to run a sump with a skimmer. Any suggestions on a tank brand, looking for something that is twelve inches in height. My lfs is recommended a deep blue professional Frag tank.

I have a 12'' tank and while I love it. I use my frag tank as insurance and for fragging. I would opt for a 60 or 80 gallon 48x24x12-16''. This will be priced reasonably and provide you with plenty of room. Once you get over 48'' in glass it will cost you double for the price of the aquarium. I have a rimless planet aquarium 5' x 2' x 1' which is a beauty. That said I prefer to have a rimmed tank. Easier to work with and screen if needed for the fish. It provides a much cleaner look if using a screen.

If you go with Deep blue I would buy it without the overflow box. I think you will be more satisfied drilling your own with a herbie/bean animal. If you have the $ I recommend the synergy 16'' overflow box.

King Triton thank you for the information you have provided me with. Can the deep blue bottom glass be drilled, it is not tempered is it?

Im not sure. I wouldn't think so though. You can email them directly at [email protected] . I would shoot for an overflow box on the side glasses if space allowed. It would give you more room internally.

I have the deep blue 30g rimless tank. Mine is the reef ready one. I believe the bottom panel is tempered on all of them. Mine was tempered after the holes were drilled

I have the deep blue 80g shallow frag tank, reef ready with overflow box and I've never had any issues with it. I love it, even though I use it as a shallow reef and not a frag tank. Price is fairly expensive new though, I got mine used.

I have a deep blue 45g set up as a frag tank. It's 4' long and 12" high. I really like the tanks.

I love the Deep Blue. We ordered six of them the other day to swap out some fiberglass tanks. I don't know if you can drill them but I do know altering them voids any warranty.

They are the best bang for your buck, assuming you can get them in. Most retailers will not ship them so they are limited to local sales- since a vendor can just bring in a pallet of them without any huge risk of damage.

I've seen them online for $500+ but they are usually only $300 locally. Just depends if your LFS has the buying power to bring in enough to make it worth it.

Next cheapest route would be acrylic but you have to extra cautious with it. You are in and out of frag tanks a lot so I would stay away from acrylic, personally.

+ 1 on staying away from acrylic. So easy to mess up and so hard to clean. Wish you were closer I have a mint rr deep blue 60 I've been trying to sell.
