I have pretty much run out of space in my 150. I just received in 8 more pieces and I am looking at mounting them on the back glass and or overflows. I have a couple spots on the rock and also looking at removing a couple pieces to replace with these new pieces. I cut the stems off all plugs and use a combo of epoxy and superglue. Can I mount them this way to the glass? If so, will they stick easily and how strong is the hold? Will they fall as they grow? Also, how easy would it be to remove the coral off the glass if I decided to do that?

Thinking of adding to the areas with blue circles. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You still have plenty of room, mount the frags to smaller pieces of rock them scatter them through the tank. You could also purchase some bigger pieces of dry rock and add to the tank. I would do that before sticking on glass. If the coral are mounted to smaller pieces of rock they can encrust, and then glued to your aquascape, you can keep corals closer together and then detach and move.

Another alternative would be to purchase magnet ceramic rock frag stations. Mount to wall. Then glue rock to it with frags attached. Eventually you could put frags on the magnet frag stations...

It is hard to tell but I have pieces mounted about every 3" or closer across all rocks. I don't have much of an option other than that.

I've glued SPS to my glass. I regretted it. Not only did most of them fall in time (aka knocked over by turbo snails), but they always seemed like an eye sore to me. If you were going to do it, I would do suction/magnetic mounts so you can move them easier and make sure they don't fall off. Otherwise, I'd add some LR rubble or add a bridge or some structure under that second circle to give you more real estate.

No problem.. sps corals are really easy to manipulate IME, whether it's breaking them off or smothering the life out of them with some epoxy. GL.

Maybe look into the Ocean Box Design single frag holders. It comes in sets of 5 so that would be great for you!

Absolutely... get a magnetic frag holder. They even look like liverock.

I use several of these in my tank and really like them. Once they get covered in coralline algae, they blend really well with the rest of the tank. Easy to move around too even when corals have gotten large and encrusted.

I am looking at these magnetic rocks. Anyone have any experience with these? They look like a good option. Seem a little pricey though for a rock with two magnets.

I made some DIY mounts. I put a strong plastic coated neodymium magnet in some epoxy. What do you all think? Do you think it could cause issues with the magnets over time?

I like that idea. I have no clue as to whether the magnets will cause any troubles or not. I have tried regular superglue on clean glass scraped clean of coralline to try and mount some encrusting monti and they are constantly falling off. I am going to try straight over some coralline to see if they will stick a bit better. But if that doesn’t work I will be trying something like you have made.

I just used regular super glue. The key is to glue it on the coralline algae. Once it takes hold it will start encrusting on the coralline. I haven’t had a piece fall of. You can see in the pics my montis really like it. The problem with the plug is once it encrusts you’ll see the outline of whatever you used to glue it with. I took the plug portion out of the cyphastrea and it covered the gap. I’m about to do it with the Superman monti.

That’s not little pricy, that’s a rip off. I see $40 is reasonable. Or you can simply spend about $20 and have it done in less than an hour.

My backwall is becoming covered with Moneyshot montipora which was mounted to a magnetic frag plug.

I have not found a magnet mount that I trust yet. All of them I have used ended up looking like they broke after a while. Great for growing stuff small but will you really trust the magnet for 3+ years on most of these magnet mounted things?
