Well after the power outtage from Irene wiped out a few of my fish, I'm looking for options for restocking my tank. I plan to get another solarensis wrasse to replace the one I lost, but unsure what my plans are for tangs. The sole surviving tang is a hippo tang (about 3 inches) and I'm thinking of adding an Atlantic Blue, a yellow tang, and a clown tang. I'm also considering swapping the clown tang for a blonde naso due to the difficulty of getting them to eat in captivity. I'd love to hear everyones suggetions for any other additions, but there are a few species that I'd like to avoid such as a purple tang, achilles tang, and a chevron tang. The purple tang is too aggressive, the achilles has too poor of a survival rate and I'm not a fan of the adult Chevron's coloration. Any input would be appreciated!

If you think the purple is aggressive I wouldn't get a clown tang. I always liked convicts and lavenders. I love nasos but they get so big. I wouldnt feel right getting one unless I had a huge tank.

I've never had a purple before, but I've just heard plenty of horror stories. I know the clown tangs can be aggressive to tangs with similar body shapes, but I always thought that the purples were worse?

It really sucks about the loses man. How about an orange shoulder tang, naso blond tang, powder brown. I've always loved the achilles but I understand why you wouldn't want to try it. I think the atlantic blue is a good choice.

Not a huge fan of the powder brown, but did consider a powder blue. The shape of the powder brown/blue is quite similar to the naso and I know that the powders can be fairly aggressive. Charlie from CTARS has a powder blue and it bullies everything else in his tank.

How'd you make out with your tank? get power back yet?

Orangeshoulder is def one of my favorites. Yellow Eye Kole as well has a good personality.

I have both a yellow and purple, as well as a hippo and female naso in my 180. I wouldn't completely write off the purple. My yellow is the aggressor of the Z. tangs (really just the occasional push and posture) and my hippo is the biggest bully in my tank.

My hippo is a wuss.... he gets chased by my chromis! lol

The power just came back on and everything looks good so far.

Good to hear bud! If you ended up losing any corals, let me know and I'll cut you some frags.

Mimic, naso, and orange shoulder. A black would be nice instead of the mimic, but a bit of cash. I had a purple that was very good with a scopas, but wasn't fond of anything else. I sold this purple and a blue jaw to a local. Both went into his 220 that had a powder blue that was pretty bad. Both the purple and blue jaw took care of the problem and now control the tank together with the powder blue as third in command. All were fine after a few shows by the blue jaw and purple as the new kings.

I think I did alright. I will frag my strawberry shortcake for you and I have a few others I can frag for you too. A lot of votes for that orange shoulder.

One tang you don't hear a lot about is the thompson's tang (thompsoni). I picked one up about eight months ago and really like it. Closest thing to an all black tang I can afford.....

Sorry about your loses.

I was without power for 14 hours about 10 days ago. My 12v battery backup running one of my two Vortech MP40's is all that saved me before I could get someone over to start the generator. I had just left town and was 500 miles away.
