looking for help choosing a return pump for my sump. just ordered a ruby 30, my tank is a 53 gallon I believe (36 long 20 high) plumbing back up to the tank will be around 4 feet and my over flow is a life reef single , thanks !

After I fixed my vibration issues... I do like my sicce 3.0. I have a reefer 170 about 40 gallons total volume after displacement. I had nothing but mag drives before that.

newbie question im sure but what do you mean 40 gallons after displacement? lol

Rock, sand, and equipment will displace water. If you havent added water yet, I would count every gallon you put in to your system so you know your actual water volume. May help in the future if your ever going to dose something

oh I see, didn't thinking about that going into factor when calculating things, also another question, is there a specific formula to follow when calculating the return pump gph back to the tank? any links you may think to be helpful throw em my way! cant really seem to find anything about the math

To many lol. The absolute minimum is around 4x per hour. I wouldn't exceed 15. You dont need that volume passing through your sump. More power is always better and can be dialed back or have be diverted to run other equipment.

Flow beyond those numbers is best to have power heads, gyres, etc...

ok, and as far as chosing a pump it needs to be 10x gph as my sump and tank volume correct?
