So according to research true percs should host with a Sebae (H. crispa) so unless my info is wrong they should pair off. I have tried a few things now and they never seem to host once both are in the tank. They will host for a few hours in a container, but the moment they go into the tank hosting is over. Any suggestions?
I have tried:
Acclimating Together
Herding them to it
Keeping them and anemone in a small jar until hosting for several hours
Literally scooping the clowns in the anemone so both are added in the tank at the same spot at the same time (Only did this once as they dove into it and refused to come out so I figured why not try it)
At this point both are healthy and happy, but they just host in a corner near my overflow. The only thing they have shown a natural interest in is the BTA that belongs to a skunk pair, but even then all they did was briefly check it out and leave. I have wondered maybe if the store sold me mislabeled ocellaris, but from reading they seem to be true perc as their label claimed. Is there a for sure way to tell this without pulling them from the tank to examine the dorsal spines?
