Good Evening,

This week I am going to pursue with my 46 gallon bow front tank. I need suggestions on lights and filtration. For lights I am looking to do very basic corals. This is something once I get better with the salt water I will potentially want to upgrade. I am looking for some very easy corals to keep. I am meeting with LFS tomorrow after work, but I just want to get your suggestions on the filtration and lighting that I should get for this tank! Thanks for the input! I really appreciate all the help.

I'm glad your setting up the tank! I have a 29-gallon nano attached to my main display and have been using the AquaMaxx Prism LED (https://www.marinedepot.com/aquamaxx-prism-led-light-fixture) for the last year. It has a great controller with blue, white, and special (green, red, UV) spectrums and really puts out a lot of light. I am growing mostly LPS and zoas under it, but acros and montis are actually doing good aswell. I have also had a Kessil on this tank and it did not perform as well as the Prism because it didn't have the spread. Especially if you are only interested in soft corals, I would not spend more than $150 on a lighting system. As for filtration, a protein skimmer is hit or miss, but in my experience, most nanos do just as well with filter socks, some media bags, and regular water changes. Keep things simple and you will get good results! Best of luck!

Watch every BRS video you have time for, if you you dont have that much time watch BRS 160 and BRS/WWC series before doing anything. It will give you a solid base to make some smart decisions
Good luck

Just plan it well, plan for future upgrades, patience, and remember, we're like farmers, waiting on the harvest and hoping it's a good one.....

I hung a single MarsAqua over my 46g Bowfront and in the short time I had it, corals grew, Anemone was happy...... Very good light for that tank.

Mine had a canister filter..... That was my reason for upgrading immediately..... I wanted a sump.
