Suicidal Goby

So I have had my tank for a few months and I have been through 4 Goby Fish. First one jumped out of the tank with the lid on. He/She jumped out of the hole used for the lights. Second one go too close to one of the Sea Anemones and well... circle of life. The latest one jumped out too. Normally I block the holes at night and leave them open during the day. This one jumped mid-day, the day after I put it in there.

Does anyone else have this problem or have had this problem? I really like having the Goby, and I like how they keep the sand clean. I want to buy another one, but I don't want it to go the way of a Jatinga Bird.

I am thinking about taping the holes up.

I've had to rescue my Yellow Watchman from the return pump chamber of my sump twice now. First time he went, he was new to my tank so I didn't have a cover on it yet. Second time, I can only guess he squeezed thru holes in the overflow, rode the plumbing into the sump, then made is way thru the several chambers. When I finally found him, he was clear as a ghost, a little stiff, and hungry but he rebounded right back in a few hours. Good as can be again.

Are there any other fish that could be picking on them? They are more likely to jump if stressed or threatened.

The latest Goby was the biggest in the tank. Although I am learning that doesnt mean anything. I just bought 2 Watchmen and a Pistol Shrimp. They had already bonded so i couldn't separate them. Also, the tank is 18 inches tall.

multiple gobies with an 18" tank?

not really a fan of mixing the same type. maybe others can chime in.

By multiple do you mean species? I only had one Dimon Goby in there. The reason there are 2 Watchmen is because the had bonded together and then both of them bonded to the Shrimp, so I had to buy both.
