I was using a 4l container that was from a distilled water jug for limewater. But it seems the calcium hudroxide ate trhough the bottom or made it brittle. Whats a good container for this purpose? Glass? Are 2l coke bottles immune to kalk?

It was probably polycarbonate. That is the main clear material that is known to be a problem with the high pH of limewater.

Polypropylene and polyethylene are fine. Glass has its own issues, potentially releasing silica (for better or worse), but not enough to hurt the glass integrity.

I'd probably avoid soda bottles as they do have chemical linkages that can break at high pH, but probably much slower than polycarbonate.

Hmm now i just need to find a suitable container. hdpe that is suitable too?

What about those water jugs? Will that work?

Yes, any form of polyethylene or polypropylene that seems physically strong enough. :)

Those water jugs are often polycarbonate. Look on the bottom for the recycling code.

So that wont work. So hard, glass is alright, just the concern with silica? I already dose silica so it wont hurt the tank.

Then glass should be fine. :)

I found a 4l spring water jug to use that says Hdpe on the bottom. Well see if this holds up :)
