I just recently set my sulfur reactor back up with new sulfur. My tank water is running about 30 to 40 nitrates then i checked the output of the reactor an its putting out around a 100 nitrates is this normal when first setting up? I checked 3 days after its been running.

Mesures your nitrites. Sulphur reactors is known to produce a lot of nitrites in the start (to high flow) and nitrite in the water interfere with the nitrate method of analyse and give a false reading of nitrate. The factor is between 50 and 100. A nitrite concentration of around 1 ppm will - with the most test brands - give a false reading of nitrate about 50 ppm.

Sincerely Lasse
