i was lookn at my tank today everything was lookn good then toward evening some stuff was closed up i then glanced at my thermometer tank temp was climbing to 83 ish its been staying around 78ish what temp is to high its night now i shut off lights threw couple bags of ice in tank its starting to cool down i just moved into my first house it is old and it has no ac yet its been hotest day so far in 90's i will be placing ac's in asap when funds are available ????what temp is to high and any diy suggestions to keep it cool iam freezing gallon jogs and any empty pop bottles i can find any help would be help ??????

Have an ATO? If so could have a g an blowing across the water surface to increase evaporation which will help cool the tank

I run my tanks at 80.6 in the summer, reef tanks really will be fine up to even 82. The problem is the swing from 78 to 83, Here's what I do with my tanks, a temperature controller and clip on fans. You set the temp and the fans will turn on and cool of the water to keep the tank from swinging wildly in temp every day. You can configure fans from clip on fans made for aquariums to clip on or fans from walmart. Be aware you will get evaporation so running an ato is highly recommended, otherwise top off frequently to prevent swing in salinity.

thanks for the tip i check into the iknbird i dont have a ato so i have to do old school manual do you think that just leaving a fan on it all time it would work then a heater will kick on if its to cold?

laster year i had no issuse cause i left my ac on all time i just gota buy one mabe next week or 2 i try fans for the time inbetween but thinkn fan all time should cool it then if it gets 2 cold heater will kick on

so today a new day but figured some thing out so far my tank is in front of the window with the back painted but i took curtian and draped it over my pvc plumbing to act as a shoot to catch and guid fresh cool air into sump i have a fun hooked up rotating near top of tank so far keepn temp down time will tell its another hot day here so far good
