Do you go into maintenance mode during the summer months or do you work just as hard at growing your reef(s) as you do any other time of the year? If you go into maintenance mode, do you find that your aquariums have deteriorated when Fall comes around, or are they still in top shape?
Gary

Tip top all year, or as close as I can get it anyway! Nights and rainy days are when I work on the tank that way I can use the nice weekends for fishing and racing.

I do maybe about 1/3 the reefing, testing, maintanace, collecting, trading and any other reefing chores from May to September. I have a feeling that this summer is going to be even worse :(

I dont get to do much with my tank during my sons soccer, basketball and baseball seasons. That last from fall til summer then I have to fight to get my tank back into shape in the summer. I hate doing it that way but kids come 1st.

All year I kind of just let my tank do its thing. I have a very hands off philosophy.

+1 same here

one thing about summer for me is i turn up the heater so my tank gets to 82.......when storms knock out my ac my tank has went as high as 86 with no problems.....my tank needs little or none maintenance i try to have alot of cucumbers to keep my tank clean.....only my mj mods need to be cleaned monthly.....rarely but once a year do i change water.

Hey Gary, long time no see. I think I pay more attention in the summer for fear of the water heating up too much. But maintanence is the same.

Despite living in Buffalo,

The summer time is my most active reefing time. This is because school takes up much of my time in the winter, but because of this I am opposite most of the people in the reefing community around here.

I do try to make things as automated as possible and take a hands off approach on beautiful days but like I said I have more time in the summer

Chris

Ive had my 55 gal. as a reef for 25 years. I slack off some from time to time prolly more in summer but I never get sick of reefing.
I do worry about heat issues in the summer and watch the temp more often.

I watch my reef more carefully in the summer. Too hot here in so cal and you just can't chance an equipment failure and losing thousands.
W/C testing still the same... once a week pretty much

between fishing, wakeboarding, and boating in general along with cookouts etc. I surely dont spend as much time with my tanks. My every other week water changes may go 3 weeks a couple of times during summer but in general my tanks are great throughout.

I never slack off on my tanks , way to much time and money invested to get side tracked by sunshine .
