What do people use to keep ther tanks cool rather then a chiller. I use a couple little fans but they don't seem to blow that much air around. is it better to keep tanks covered or uncovered?

WOW! Very nice.

Covered with netting I think - allows gas exchange but prevents jumping deaths. I use a 16" fan across a five foot long tank. Lots of air low - very effective. A dehumidifier would enhance the effectiveness.

I thought about getting one of them dehumidifier. it's so humid here in Alabama but if I got one I would have to keep garage door shut all the time prolly. wow a 16 inch fan how much evaporation do u go thru though daily

I keep my home 73 degrees and my tanks are open top. No problems keeping them cool.
73 is like the perfect temp for inside the house but your heater kicks on sometimes in the summer [emoji12]

Between 2 and 2.5G daily on a 60"x28" 150g display, plus a large enclosed yet open sump. :-(

budman, are all your tanks in you garage?

I run a dehumidifier in my house and it makes a big difference in how comfortable the house feels.

I don't have any problems with heat, but I always thought I would make my own chiller with a mini frig if need be. I'm sure there's a DIY example on here.

Yes they are all in garage right now, last year my main tank inside busted at the seam and im still saving for a new one to go back inside ,I still had my frag tanks and my sump out in the garage.. Under those 2 frag tanks is the sump that is a 240g tank that i made into one

Oh wow.. I'm in Alabama and I can't imagine keeping my tank in my garage.. I would think that the water would boil at times lol. You may want to look into a chiller if the fans are not cutting it.. or someone told me to freeze water bottles and float them in the sump.. good luck.. you have a gorgeous tank

I ve got a chiller don't think I could run a tank without unless it was inside . just curious on how.others cool there tanks

Have you had issues with the temp so far? Mine isn't even in the garage and I'm hitting 80-81F in my tank. How much longer until Fall?

no issue yet I did move the chiller where the exhaust is pointing out the window. I get a. 5 degree swing from 78.7 to 79.2 during day which isn't bad.. Yeah we haven't even got to the hot part yet I like fall and winter better for sure

Do you have a plug in that would accommodate a window air conditioner?

I agree with this. I would avoid covering my tanks with anything other than a mesh screen.
