Sump Advice

I am in the same boat of a new sump. I currently have a 20L DIY sump that I did my self and I am using it on my 75g set up . But when I did water testing then **** of the return pump the drain back into my sump nearly filled up my 20L to the rim . I freaked out that it my flood over the trim. So now I looking at new sumps, and even thought about building my own as well .

If you have room under a 75, you could definately use a 30 gallon tank as a 40 breeder would probably not fit. I have a 30 that I made into a sump and it works great. Check out my tank thread and it explains it.

Thanks MaiReef , but I am really considering build my own sump from scratch, I am thinking of build a 34in x 16in x 14in tall sump that would fit in my stand. I hav some extra 1/4in glass laying around so I am considering to build it out of that glass .

It's really not so much the size of the sum but where you have your siphon breaks in your return line...I drilled two 1/8 siphon holes in my return line and probably only get 2 gallons of water back into the sump...not sure what kind of return setup you have but thus should be adjustable...

I have a check valve in my return line, and the drain back into my sump is mostly coming from my overflow box .

I'm getting ready to purchase a sump for my 40 breeder that I'm setting up and I'm not sure which to choose. I really love the look of the eshopps sumps and that they are very quiet, however I'm not sure about the layout and difficulty seeing/cleaning certain sections of it? I'm also considering the Trigger Sapphire 26 and the Ruby 30. I like that the Sapphire has a lid to keep noise and salt creep down and hose holders for ato etc. but the Ruby is larger and offers more water volume. I'd also like something that could be used in the future should I choose to get a larger tank 75-90 gallons or so. If anyone has experience using either of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts, and any other opinions are greatly appreciated.

There is a Trigger Sapphire 34 as well as a 39. Will the 34 not fit? That would also be a goid size for a 90. I have the 39 for a 180. Just haven't plumbed it yet. They are gorgeous sumps with a great look. And even though they are expensive, they're actually one of the cheaper acrylic sumps with all of the compartments.

The best time to buy one is around Memorual Day, July 4th, or Black Friday time. They're usually 20% off.

I originally wanted one of the triggers but it was just a bit too pricey which is why I went with the bashsea bio fuge. It too is very nice looking--black and blue and has a nice sized fuge.

Trigger 34 is approx 10x14 price 4 hundred something
Trigger 39 is approx 10x15 price 529 I believe
Bashsea biofuge is approx 14x14 price 360
(edit: website fuge measurements wrong
Ordered from premium aquatics. Good deliver, good packaging, great looking sump

I'm thinking the 34 would be a bit large for the stand I'm going to build. I'd like to make sure that there is enough room for additional equipment.
