I’m planning a 375g build with a fish room. I’ve spent the last 5 years crawling on the ground under my current tank to access the sump and I’m over it. To make things easier for the new tank, I’d like to put the sump at knee level height. What do you guys recommend I build the sump stand out of? Do most just use wood? If aluminum or another metal, where do you get a stand made?

Up until a few years ago I always built my own stands and used wood.

Since I've downsized I've been using white kitchen cabinets with some extra structural work. First for a 40g cube and now for a 90g DIY build (36x30x20).

Is the sump going to be in a different room from the tank? Like through the wall or something? I do like the idea of it being off the ground and not under the tank. But I just don't have the room for it in my house.

Yes I plan on having the sump in the adjoining storage room. It’ll be in the basement so I’ll have a decent amount of space for the fish room. Where do you get the kitchen cabinets Home Depot?

Naw, we had our kitchen cabinets done by the company selling the cabinets (a local company that did very nice work and the cabinets are from South America). Then I redid the cabinets in both bathrooms to match the kitchen. First the old kitchen:

And the new kitchen:

And the counter tops have occlusions that look like this:

So I got 2 extra cabinets that would have gone under the kitchen sink and did some re-enforcing so I was comfortable with them holding up 500 pounds of water! I started with a 40g cube and a 16g holding tank.

Then I decided to go bigger and built a 90g tank (36x30x20). I wanted more room for RFAs and I really wanted the 30" front to back distance. And I also made the new tank white to go with the cabinets and the rest of the house.

It's not done yet. Eventually the center space will have a door. And I converted the toe kicks under the cabinets to slide in&out drawers made out of PVC sheet goods.

Wow man. Nicely done! It looks great. The slide out drawers would be so handy for storing things you access often when working with the tank. Thanks for the ideas.
