Working on my 55 gal reef tank build. I know that I eventually want to get a larger tank within the next 5 years so I would like to get a sump that would work for up to 110 gal. I really like the trigger systems crystal 30, but I can't find what size tank it would be sufficient enough for. Second thing, any recommendations on a protein skimmer that would also work for both sizes?

trigger systems make some BEAUTIFUL sumps. I just bought a trigger systems ruby 36 for my 75g. I always try to get a sump around half the size of your display tank. If I was you when the day came to buy a new 110g Id use your 55g and make that into a sump. Save you a lot of money!

I use diy sumps, so I can't help with that. But for skimmers, I recommend reef octopus skimmers, I am currently using an eshopps skimmer and I am very unhappy with its performance, the customer service wasn't that great either.
Care to share any plans or supply list you may have? I'm building a DIY stand and would love to build a sump too if it would save a bunch of money

I just got a synergy sump. Very happy with the product. If you're looking for a skimmer you could utilize on both setups I'd probably look for a dc controlled skimmer that way you can dial it back on your 55. The octopus line looks nice. I was also very intrigued by the RLSS line and would have gone that route if I hadn't set my mind on a BK
