I'm planning for a sump build for my 70 gallon tank. I'm going to use a 30 gallon long tank. A picture is worth a thousand words, please tell me if and where i'm going wrong!
  • In the picture each box with a 1 in it represents 1" x 1"
  • The baffles are 11" high.
  • 5" of empty sump tank at the top for overlfow protection
  • The purple in the picture is plastic grid
  • I'm going to use a bean animal over flow into dual socks on the left side.
  • My return will be only an inch or two beneath the surface.

Thanks!
John

you don't need floss if your running socks. The exits from sections should go over the top not the bottom. Make sure you leave enough space so your display won't overflow the sump when return pump is off

Thx! I'll adjust the design. Why over the top and not the bottom, I'm curious and trying to learn as much as I can?

+1 on the floss...they clog plenty fast and can cause your ATO to dump fresh water unnecessarily.

it will leave "slim" in the top corner because no flow dead area.

I built an up flow filter floss section for dead silent mechanical filtration. I get zero dead spots up top but, that section has turbulent flow from the drains and skimmer. Filter floss do clog quickly tho, I kind of wish I built this around a automatic fleece roller.
