Hey everyone, I am setting up my first reef tank it is still cycling but Im almost done and getting ready for fish. I was redoing my plumbing to make it more efficient and was thinking about changing my sump chambers. In the first chamber I have my filter sock and will have my skimmer then i have a large middle chamber then the third chamber is the return pump. Right now I just have marine pure balls and ceramic media. would it be better to get rid of the media here and make it a refugium or should I add a baffle and and have one chamber with some of this media and one chamber fuge (it is a 10gal sump on a 30gal aquarium)

Welcome to R2R! If you have plenty of rock in the display, I wouldn't worry with any extra media in the sump. When I had marine pure and a refugium it was overkill for my tank.

I agree with PDR, If you have plenty of rock in the display I wouldn't bother. However if your aquascape is minimal I would build a small tray to fit between one of the baffles of the bubble trap between the skimmer section and middle chamber. I made one out of egg crate to hold rock rubble. The idea here is to make water flow through it and not allow detritus to settle in it. Just be sure it doesn't impede your flow.
