Hello guys, I just purchased this 90 gallon setup. The tank was neglected for 6-8 months. I just got everything moved and am in the process of cleaning everything. I finally got the tank cleaned now its time for the sump. How can I clean this? If you look at the back of the stand in one of the pictures you will see some mold/salt build up on the stand any suggestions there?

Build a new stand.

Empty the rock chunks out of that drain compartment and don't put them back, IMO.

You should be able to wipe the tank down with vinegar and get it ready with minimal fuss. Minor elbow grease at worst.

Bleach it or whatever if you want (AFTER rinsing the vinegar.....never mix bleach with anything), but I wouldn't worry too much about the mold on the tank....I would just clean it along with the rest of the tank and then let everything dry for a day.

Dry it in the sun if you think it getting some UV would make you feel better. :)

I would also highly recommend painting or sealing the inside of the stand, hate for you to have a structural failure years down the road.

Yeah I'm going to trash the rock, I'll try some vinegar. Maybe some bleach. Thank you!!!

Vinegar is working on the sump, its just taking a lot of elbow grease.... Lol

Muritic acid take the sump out side put 25% acid rest water will be clean in 30 min like new just don't get on skin and watch out for fumes but its quick I never do vinegar takes to long plus I do all my power heads n pumps once every two months comes out like new and quick

Fill it with vingir and water and put a pump in it to move the mixture. 24 hhours later it should be way easier. Good luck

+1 - no elbow grease required. Probably too late at this point, but for any future readers' reference!
