I am building out a 210 that has two corner overflows and was going to drain one
into one sump 70G and then the other drain would go into a second sump a150G
rubber-maid tub. I was going to plumb them with 2" bulk head for the rubber maid
going into a 2" t then I was going to leverage 2 1" bulk heads T'ed and joining
the main T back to the return pump that would go to a manifold and return as
well. I would naturally have disconnects and Ball valves to ensure that I could
cut off either sump when ever I needed to.

Does any one see any problem
with this? Has any one done something like this before.

I was wondering
if any one had words of wisdom. on this design.

Thanks

Why the 70? I don't see a need truthfully unless it is going to be a fuge. I also have a 150 Rubbermaid sump for my 180. Its plenty big and I barely have it halfway full.

Sounds a bit more complicated than it needs to be...and I am the king of complicated. For my tank I ran 2" pipes for both supply and return from the sump. The return then splits to 1" to go thru the tank bulkheads. And then into a manifold with 4 outlets.

A Cryptic Zone is a type of Fuge that houses a different variety of beneficial organisms that some have found to benefit the reef tank. And having a true deep sand bed IMO is a great way to control Po4 naturally, I had one on my 185 that i never ran any other Po4 reducing media yet had the best coral growth of any of my many tanks.
I kept my overflow areas dark in a mini attempt at a cryptic zone and had lots of growth inside them, mainly Tunicates, sponges, and stuff i could not ID but the variety of life in those dark areas was very apparent to me and did no harm and may help maintain water quality.
I'm sure there are people that will chime in on this and have more info to contribute than i do! Lets hear what you know...
