So today I just got my filter socks and my hole saw bits for my 55 gallon reef tank Build and I’m trying to design the sump and idk if I should have 1 filter sock or 2 In the sump

What type of overflow are you going to be running? single drain, dual drain? and how many gallons per hour are you going to be pushing?

Hold on......you are drilling the 55? Have you tested the glass to see if it's tempered. Many 55's use tempered glass which can not be drilled. Testing for temper is simple, only needed a pair of polarized sunglasses and a white screen on a phone/tablet/laptop.
 
I have a single drain and about 950 gph or more
I'd do dual socks if you're going to be running that much water through them :) If it was 700 or lower you could do just one, but at that point, just for fail safe purposes i'd run two.

I’ve already checked and the glass isn’t tempered only the bottom is
