I plan on upgrading my 55 to a 180 this upcoming spring. I already own the 180 as it was from when I was living with my dad. I have a 90G DIY sump underneath it but it's pretty tall and i don't have a ton of room to work. I added a 2x12 frame to the bottom of the stand just for the added height but I don't like the look of it. What do you guys use for a sump on a tank this size? dimensions are standard 72x24x24. I was thinking about going the DIY route again to save money but could use some design ideas.

If the 90G limits vertical access, use a 75G. I would use a 55G.

No matter what you use, consider a cryptic refugium.

The 90 is actually custom built. I built it dimensionally yo a 75G and just added 6 inches of length. So it's 54x18x21.

Deep blue, and maybe some others, makes an 80 gallon that is 4x2x16" high. That would give you good volume and footprint but not be too high.

40 breeders make really good sumps, but it might not be the volume you're looking for.
