Sump for 400-500 gallon tank.

I'm looking for a sump that can handle 400-500 gallons of display volume, I would like to be able to use those fleece roll filters but it isn't absolutely necessary. I've been looking around for one and the biggest I've found says it can handle 200 gallons. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I also tried looking in the monster build threads for inspiration but a lot of them seemed custom and I'm not sure I want to try that route.

You could always buy 2 of the 200's and connect them together.

If its the price tag on the custom sumps you could always try a Rubbermaid stock tank/watering trough kind of thing, or another budget friendly option, check out @AlexG build thread his sump setup is pretty cool.

Sorry I dont know pre-made sump options other than stuff like that as something like that is my plan so I don't look into other stuff. Hope this helps.

It's not price, it's that I'm not creative enough to make one haha. Don't feel like doing it just to figure out the flow sucks and I have to start over. I want something that looks good though, not the rubbermaid tanks.

That is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Much appreciated bud. Not gonna lie though if I found that on my own I probably would have skipped it because it says "cube" I would have associated it with nanocubes.

I think a lot of sump sizing is Subjective personally. What you should be really looking for is a sump that can accommodate the types of filters you would like to implement. Not what the manufacturer hypothetically thinks it can handle volume wise. There are plenty of sumps out there MUCH bigger than that Fiji-cube 46 and ones that are more tailored to a roller mat setup that you want to have. You can also have someone custom build a sump to your exact specs If you wish which is another fantastic option.

I've looked at a lost of custom builders for a sump for a 400 I was going to build.

I found Acrylic Habitats to be the most willing and helpful on a custom design, and also the most cost effective compared to Geo's, Advanced Acrylic, and a few others.

The largest off the shelf sump I could find was the ice cap 48xl, which is a 24x48”. Anything larger you have to go custom, or go with the Rubbermaid stock tanks.

Advanced Acrylics makes a 60" that's "Technically" off the shelf however not massed produced for obvious reasons but is customizable..

I guess what I mean by “off the shelf” is it’s already made and gets shipped to you. Many of the sumps from acrylic builders, like synergy, geo, advanced acrylic, etc, will need to order materials and build the sump, even if it’s listed on their website. I think Bashea sells many of their smaller sumps “off the shelf” but none are bigger than the icecap 48xl.

Tideline has a 72" (non custom) sump.
Keep in mind if you are looking at anything larger that 48', the price jumps up quite a bit due to the freight shipping rates involved.

I do think that if you're not married to a particular design, feature, etc. and don't have any concerns about aesthetics, the stock tanks are the best choice. They come in a ton of sizes, are way cheaper and easier to mod to your needs than an acrylic sump.

With all their color schemes, I bet it’s hard to keep everything in stock. I thought they made everything on order, but maybe not. Guess you just have to ask what they have already made.

To be fair, nowadays manufacturers might be having serious trouble keeping even basic acrylic in stock making it difficult to make and stock off the shelf sumps. With the rising cost of acrylic in general they also might not stock certain less popular colors and only order those on a case by case basis to keep there overhead costs down. I know from personal experience that some of that fluorescent acrylic was insanely expensive a few years ago so now I don't even want to know what it costs and as a business, I wouldn't want to foot the bill for acrylic that "Might" sell over something I know will sell.

Look for a used 125, 150 or 180 and make your own. Glass is cheap and so is silicone. With a large tank, this is a good way to go... all you need is a tape measure, a few trips to the glass store, glass hole saw and some bulkheads if you want an external pump.
