I use a 40b on my 180, I think it's the perfect size sump for this tank
Cool thanks, Is a 40B 3ft long? I wanted to have a decent sized refugium so was looking at at the 4ft length to give me a bit more room for it?
You might have problems with the height of 18". Assuming it will be under your display tank in a cabinet, you need enough space between the roof of the cabinet and the top of the tank to give you access into the tank for cleaning, maintenance, adjusting equipment and so on. If you do not leave enough space, working in your sump can be a real pain.
Yea that size sump would be great for that tank... gives you plenty of room to fit whatever type of equipment you'd need and like! You could possibly go smaller if you wanted to but that would limit your choices of equipment and what not... I'd personally try to get as big of a sump as you can have and fit for your tank, there's really no such thing as have "too big" of a sump.
Yes a 40b is 3' long, so depending on how you want to set it up it could be tough to make a fuge. Here is a pic of mine shortly after I built it

That looks amazing, the layout and pipework is really smart! Did you buy that as a sump or did you do the baffles and compartments yourself?
I bought the baffles as a kit and then installed them myself.
Where did you get the kit from? That looks awesome.I bought the baffles as a kit and then installed them myself.

Where did you get the green gate valves? Amd green pvc? They used to be sponsors here but I don't believe they are anymore. If you dig thru my build thread I'm sure the name is in there somewhere![]()
